Wiffle Ball / "Small Ball" Pitching Machines
|
|
|
|
Another category of pitching machines is
what we refer to as the "small ball" variety. These machines pitch balls
other than baseballs - often undersized whiffle balls of some sort. The
goal of these machines is to improve hand eye coordination for the
batter, not to simulate real life pitches. With many of these models,
the batter stands about 20 feet from the machine and uses a bat very
small in diameter - the small ball, small bat and proximity to the
machine place an emphasis on teaching the batter to follow the ball and
make solid contact with the pitch. A number of varieties of these
whiffle ball pitching machines exist on the market, with prices usually
in the $150-$350 range. |
